Kyra Brown and Christan Leonard are the writers, directors, producers, and self-proclaimed drag kings and yearning aficionados behind Puck Bunnies: A Heated Rivalry Drag Musical Parody. Featuring an all-women and gender-queer cast equipped with chest plates, fake beards, packed jockstraps, and bedazzled hockey sticks, the show squeezes all six episodes of Heated Rivalry into one campy, extravagant hour as it makes its debut at the Edinburgh Fringe 2026.
How did you get into comedy / writing / producing etc?
Kyra: I’m a TV writer, with credits on shows like Shrinking and Bad Monkey. I also do a disturbing amount of improv comedy in LA. It turns out the result of these two things is obviously writing a drag king musical parody. There’s simply no other option!
Chris: I’ve explored seven or eight careers in my life, but writing is the thing I’ve always come back to. It’s the one job I never got bored of. I got into producing, not necessarily because I wanted to, but because in a group of comedians, I’m usually the only one who can do math.
Tell us about your comedy style.
Our comedy style is whatever the opposite of grounded is: campy, extravagant, and over-the-top! We have a character called the Zamboner, who is in fact an anthropomorphic horny Zamboni. So, that’s the vibe. And we’re obsessed with it.
What is your show about?
Heated Rivalry but more gay 😮 Also, the term Puck Bunnies is used to describe women who are super into men who play hockey, and our vibe is that, but also in a gay way.
Where do you get your inspiration from?
Kyra: I get inspiration from musical comedians like Bo Burnham, Weird Al, and Lil Dicky. I think they would probably all be offended by my comparing myself to them, and I think that means I’m doing something right.
Chris: I love anything with some razzle-dazzle. I’m less of an artist, more of an entertainer, and I say that with not a modicum of shame. I like to watch things that make me feel good and I hope anyone who sees PUCK BUNNIES walks away in a state of pure gayphoria.
How does it feel to be going to the Edinburgh Fringe for the first time?
Kyra: It feels surreal. It’s a lifelong dream, and by lifelong I mean since February when I googled if it was too late to submit to 2026 Fringe. It wasn’t, and somehow, a dream and a new credit card later, here we are.
Chris: I never went to camp as a kid and I feel like I finally get to live the theatre kid dream. I can’t wait to perform, see a million shows, and annoy the good people of Scotland by screaming the soundtrack to Wicked around town at two in the morning.
What have you been working on / Any interesting upcoming projects / What’s next for you?
Kyra: Sleeping, hiking the Cotswold Way, and anticipating Season 2 of Heated Rivalry when we’ll inevitably have to do this whole thing again!
Chris: Working on a play about Edith Wilson, who basically ran the country for a couple years after her husband (Woodrow) had a stroke. I also think I might get really into fencing; I like the outfits.
