Funny Women

This year we launched an Awards category in recognition of the hilarious content creators out there, the heat Content Creator Award is nominated and voted for by you, the public. The person to pick up the most votes was Hayley Morris, whose “taboo-busting, feminist content” won the day! We caught up with Hayley to talk about winning, imposter syndrome, and what makes for good online content…

Funny Women: How does it feel to win the Content Creator Award?

Hayley Morris: Insane, like really insane, you know one of those moments where you’re like ‘wait did they read the wrong name, this is going to be awkward when they realise they read my name by mistake’. I guess big-time imposter syndrome, but also like the most gratitude I have ever felt. What an incredible feeling it is to know people support and enjoy my work enough to vote for me. Truly a day I will remember forever, but if anyone who was there could forget that I had no idea what to say when I walked on stage and announced I was going to shit myself that would be great.

FW: Tell us about the kind of content you share.

HM: I’d say it’s probably best described as taboo-busting, feminist content. I really love to make content that not only makes people feel good and (hopefully) laugh, but also makes them realise how normal they are, or how odd I am.

FW: How did you get started as a content creator?

HM: I started making comedy sketches on the internet almost 10 years ago, but I had been creating little videos with my friends and brother since I was about eight years old. My Dad used to write sketches for me and my brother to perform – to literally just my mum, we’d have such a laugh and that then eventually turned into me writing and performing sketches on YouTube, TikTok and Instagram.

FW: What makes for good content?

HM: I think, personally, real and relatable content is what we’re all craving. For a very long time we’ve been made to feel isolated in the way we are, which is mad because I genuinely think that deep down, we all share a lot of the same thought patterns and behaviours.

FW: And lastly, who are your favourite funny women?

HM: This is hard to pick just a few as some of the greatest comedians out there are women. But I’ll try and pick just five for now…  Kristen Wiig, Lolly Adefope, Roisin Conaty, Aisling Bea, and Mae Martin.

Jaz Ampaw Farr may have been the one to announce that she had “Truth Tourettes” during the Funny Women Glitter Challenge at the Comedy Store last week.
