British comedian Gina Yashere’s American comedy Bob Hearts Abishola has scored a third series of the show! Co-created with Chuck Lorre in 2019, Bob Hearts Abishola airs every Monday on the CBS network where it garners audiences of five to six million.
Bob Hearts Abishola is, as you might expect, all about a relationship between white businessman Bob Wheeler, plays by Billy Gardell and Nigerian nurse Abishola, played by Folake Olowofoyeku who nursed him back to health after a heart attack. Yashere plays Kemi, Abishola’s best friend in addition to her roles as writer and executive producer on the show.
CBS executive Thom Sherman said: “We’re extremely proud of these two comedies and delighted to bring them back next season.
“…Bob Hearts Abishola masterfully blend humour with relatable and culturally relevant storylines, and are tremendous, successful Monday night anchors.”
Yashere went to Instagram to share the great news: “Being able to still make this wonderful show in the middle of a pandemic, & to have people fall in love with our culture the way they have, is truly dream come true.
“Oh, & to all those white boy comics back in the UK who laughed at me when I left & said ‘no-one wants to hear her Nigerian stuff’.. …IN YOUR FUCKIN FACES.”
Yashere also added a plug for her book, which you can pre-order here!
