Helen Duff is no longer a sperm. She welcomes us to her tunnel of Duff and what a joy it is to be inside its warmth!
In this show, the performer tells us about her experience working as part of Clowns Without Borders at the Rohingya refugee camp in Bangladesh, inevitably about being a woman, and the reasons why she is no longer a sperm. It’s about love and connection and the different forms in which these happen.
The comedian goes from chatting with the audience, telling them stories, to song and dance numbers in what is apparently a very free-form structure, but we really know nothing was left to chance.
Helen is a confident performer with many layers. From giving herself to the material she’s presenting us to dealing with the audience in such fierce ways. From the odd couple of women who came into the show, just for the first five minutes, because they had tickets for Sweeney Todd and made sure they let everyone know in a way that almost seemed staged, to the group of four people who kept being a distracting presence and to whom she gave permission to leave as, in her own words, “not everyone will like this show”.
Those of us who stayed were brought into a bold, honest and also silly performance and left feeling lighter and infected by Helen Duff’s happiness.
