Wow!
We’ve had almost 200 entries for the 2017 Funny Women Comedy Writing Award! That’s a record! Thank you to everyone who’s entered – we’ve been blown away by the talent and ideas on display.
As we speak (write?) our team of readers are furiously drinking coffee, scribbling notes and totting up the final scores as we prepare to announce the long list on Wednesday 31st January.
It will be hard enough to pick this top 25, but that will seem easy compared to having to whittle this down to a short list of 10 and, by March, our three winners! Luckily we have a crack team of judges to help us…
Emma Obank
Emma is from Agency Comedy Department, Casarotto Ramsay
Janet Awe
Janet is a comedy development executive at Sky, has a masters in screenwriting from Birkbeck, University of London and a postgraduate diploma in script development at the National Film and Television School.
Zara Meerza
Zara is a British writer and producer working across comedy, documentary and drama. She has previously worked with the BBC, Warp Films, Sky Arts, and the BFI.
Lynne Parker
Lynne is the founder and chief executive of Funny Women, an experienced producer and writer and the driving force behind the Funny Women Awards.
Jenny Laville
Jenny is a BBC comedy writer whose credits include The News Quiz, The Now Show, It’s Jocelyn, Big Problems with Helen Keen, Spotlight Tonight, and Rich Hall’s US Election Slamdown. She is also one-third of sketch group Rule of Three.
Karen Rosie
Karen is a former BBC Comedy and Entertainment producer and a highly valued consultant producer, much respected within the comedy industry. She also sits on our Advisory Board.
Kate Stone
Kate is the editor of Funny Women and an award-winning script writer. She has written comedy sketches for the BBC’s 100 Women project and created the Funny Women Awards Comedy Shorts category.
Jenny Bolt
Jenny is an actor , director and skilled workshop facilitator, trainer and coach. Another valued member of our Advisory Board, she works with us delivering industry and workplace training specialising in acting and improvisational skills.
Daniel Page
Daniel is a freelance writer, script-editor and producer, and overall ‘Chief Egg’ for the 2017 Comedy Writing Award in his capacity as the founder of Why did the Chicken?, our industry partner for this category.
