The Government Equalities Office (GEO) is launching its public survey on gender equality which is a great opportunity to have your voice heard and help shape future government action on gender equality.
As we approach the twentieth anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action – the GEO wants to hear from you on what progress you think is being made to improve the lives of women and girls in the UK, how this has changed over the last five years and your thoughts on the priorities the government should focus on.
This follows hot on the heels of ‘Think, Act, Report – Mending the Gap’ the GEO’s report launched yesterday by the Secretary of State Nicky Morgan and Jo Swinson MP, Minister for Women and Equalities.
The three year on report, shares highlights from the latest Government-led research into gender equality in the workplace and sets out how the Government is tackling the current challenges faced by businesses and employees in the UK.
Jo Swinson MP, presented the latest findings from Cranfield School of Management’s Report on women on boards and progress among FTSE 350 companies, which are included in the full report supported by EY, global leader in assurance, tax and financial advisory services.
Key findings include the fact that 14.4 million are in employment which means that more women re working in the UK than ever before. The UK has the 8th highest women’s employment rate in the EU but conversely has the 8th highest gender pay gap.
The point is also made that without gender equality we lose an important subset of talent and diversity of styles, ideas and innovation.
Funny Women's founder, Lynne Parker, who attended yesterday's launch of 'Think, Act, Report' says, "We have proved this with our work in comedy over the last 12 years. By encouraging more women to perform in the traditionally male arena of stand up, there is a richer and more diverse bedrock of talent on the comedy circuit than ever before."
