If you thought that secret policemen didn't have balls, we, and Amnesty International, are here to put you straight.

A comedy night with a conscience and a purpose, this year the Secret Policeman's Ball celebrated 50 years of Amnesty International with Sarah Silverman, Kirstin Wiig, Catherine Tate, Russell Brand, Eddie Izzard, Jimmy Carr, David Walliams, Noel Fielding,  Ben Stiller, Desmond Tutu and one of Burma’s best-known comedians, Zarganar – who has spent more than 11 years in jail for lampooning the Burmese authorities.

This comedy institution was set up by John Cleese, and with a history dating back to 1976, the Ball has always gathered the greatest stars within the comedy and music industry to raise both funds and awareness for the vital work that Amnesty does to stand up to the oppression and human rights abuses committed around the world.

The Secret Policeman's Ball 2012 is the ideal Christmas gift for the political activist with a sense of humour in your life, or as something to laugh your stockings off to on Christmas day after all the turkey has been eaten and the wrapping paper cleared away.
