As Funny Women prepares to celebrate its 25th anniversary in 2027, we’re delighted to see women in comedy continuing to take centre stage at some of the UK’s most iconic venues.
Hysterical Women, a new major celebration of women in comedy, has announced the inaugural edition, taking place on Sunday 7 March 2027 at London’s iconic Royal Albert Hall.
For nearly 25 years, Funny Women has championed female comedy talent through live events, awards, workshops and mentoring, including our own International Women’s Day celebrations. Our Funny Women Hall of Fame celebrates some of the extraordinary women who have helped shape the comedy landscape over the years, and we’re excited to see that legacy continue with the announcement of Hysterical Women, bringing ten brilliant comedians together at the Royal Albert Hall on the eve of International Women’s Day 2027.
Set to become a landmark event in the British comedy calendar, Hysterical Women at Royal Albert Hall takes place on the eve of International Women’s Day, and will showcase a compilation of world-class, award-winning comics who have helped shape the contemporary comedy scene alongside the brightest new talent coming through, with each act performing a specially-curated set.
Among the lineup are Catherine Bohart and Sindhu Vee, both former Funny Women Awards Finalists, who will be taking to the stage alongside some of the biggest names in comedy.
Catherine Bohart says: “THE ROYAL ALBERT HALL???! Are you kidding? I would pay to see this gig so I can’t believe I get to be on the bill! Let’s go girls.”
Sindhu Vee says: “So many gorgeous HYSTERICAL – in more ways than one but I speak only for myself (not) – WOMEN in the one and only gorgeous of gorges ROYAL ALBERT HALL?
You can’t make this sh*t up
Get your tkts like 10 minutes ago.”
Tickets go on sale 10AM Friday 23rd October on the Hysterical Women website.
Hysterical Women at Royal Albert Hall’s creator Bridget Mulroy, Promoter at Live Nation, said: “Hysterical Women at Royal Albert Hall is a celebration of stand-up comedy, with comedians across generations, backgrounds and identities taking over the Hall on the eve of International Women’s Day. We’re reclaiming a word that has been used to dismiss women for a very long time and putting it in lights, while celebrating the incredible talent in the comedy scene right now.
“The Royal Albert Hall is an iconic venue with a rich history of comedy legends, but it’s Victoria Wood who holds the record for the most shows in a run by any comedian, a feat she achieved twice with 15 sell-out shows. She proved what a woman with a microphone can do in that venue, and Hysterical Women is a way of carrying that forward.”
Matthew Todd, Director of Programming at the Royal Albert Hall, said: “We are delighted to have such a brilliant array of comedians performing here next year for this brand new Hysterical Women event. The Hall has been a platform for innovation, important voices and cultural change throughout its history, so this event will be a fitting moment in our programme to collectively celebrate women through the undeniable power of comedy ahead of International Women’s Day.”
The arrival of Hysterical Women is another welcome moment for women in comedy, building on decades of work to increase visibility, create opportunities and celebrate exceptional talent.
As Funny Women approaches its 25th anniversary in 2027, we’re proud to have played a part in championing female comedy talent and creating opportunities for women to find their voice, develop their careers and take centre stage. It’s wonderful to see how far things have come since we launched the Funny Women Awards in 2003, and we’re looking forward to seeing what the next 25 years will bring.
Here’s to more women on bigger stages, more opportunities and plenty more laughter!
