The all-female sketch sensation Gobby Girls: The After Party returns to Soho Theatre for four shows from 1st to 4th April. The run includes a special matinee performance to mark Live Comedy Day on 1st April followed by a short showcase as part of our very own celebration of live comedy, Funny Women Live at the Comedy Store London later the same day.
After a sold out run in 2025, Gobby Girls return to a prime time-slot in a swankier setting – Soho Downstairs at 7:15pm – having last year sold out Soho’s Upstairs room.
“Great scripts, brilliant performances, excellent direction and an understanding of what it’s like to be a funny woman, whatever your age,” said Funny Women founder Lynne Parker about Gobby Girls: The After Party, named the 34th best comedy show of 2025 by the British Comedy Guide. Its predecessor Gobby Girls: The 11% Club sold-out its hugely acclaimed run at the 2025 Edinburgh Fringe.
Created by two female-led comedy production powerhouses, Gobby Girls Productions and Female Pilot Club, the new show comes with the promise thatthe Gobby Girls have got bigger, bolder and just a little bit naughtier.
Written and performed by a hand-picked ensemble from the frontlines of TV and stand-up, this is an unmissable hour of brilliantly observed sketches. From the hilariously relatable to the downright ridiculous, The After Party catalogues the indignities of dating, the excesses of toxic parenting, the absolute cult of wellness. They’ll relish in an absolute freedom from people-pleasing, and throw in a Kate Bush classic, reimagined through the eyes of the sweaty menopausal masses… The After Party is a feminist take on the baffling experience of modern life as a woman. And the Gobby Girls do not discriminate – throughout this celebration of womanhood, they embrace true equality. Women can be a-holes too.
The Gobby Girls team brings together everyone from the freshest new comedy voices to established talent with credits on Derry Girls, Doctor Who, Horrible Histories and Top Boy. From a BAFTA winner to social media legends and a few Funny Women Award winners thrown in too, they represent some of the best female and non-binary comedy talent.
Selected through an open call, the cast and writers form a vibrant line-up from all corners of the UK. The performers – Claire Rafferty (Derry Girls), Laura Evelyn (Doctor Who), Noor Sobka, Alice Etches, Lauren Davidson, Verona Rose (Top Boy), Tonia Toseland and Jo Somner – bring together a wealth of experience from stage, screen and stand-up.
Behind the scenes, an equally impressive team of writers – Charlie Vero-Martin, Sam Lyden & Teresa Burns, Cheryl Duncan, Jenny de Jersey, Mary Flanigan, Jo Somner, Anne-Marie Draycott & Charity Trimm, Emma Keaveney-Roys & Lotte Allan, Sinead Hegarty, Jane Harvey & Rosie Sosic, Natalie Malla & Xara Higgs, Charlotte Audrey, Alice Etches and Laura Evelyn – have combined their distinctive voices under the guidance of the show’s first-rate production teams.
Between them they’ve written for Radio 4, BBC Scotland and BBC Northern Ireland, CBeebies, Cartoon Network and more, Among them are winners of the Funny Women Awards, BAFTA Rocliffe Comedy Scriptwriting Competition, BAFTA Rocliffe New Drama Writing Forum, and the London Screenwriters Festival 50 Kisses Competition; alumni of the Channel 4 Screenwriting Course, Netflix Breakout Scheme and multiple Soho Theatre Labs.
Gobby Girls Productions champions funny, fierce and female-led comedy projects. Its founder, Gina Lyons, an award-winning scripted producer in TV and Film, has long been a champion for women in comedy. She recently pitched her female led feature comedy at the Glasgow Film Festival as part of the BFI backed Funny Features.
Gina said: “The Gobby Girls are an infectious, loveable hilarious squad of women, hand-picked from a collective of women and non-binary comedy group started two years ago. I am also proud to be working with several of the writers and performers in projects for TV and film. Catch the girls before you need a cinema ticket to see them.”
Female Pilot Club was founded in 2019 in response to the stubbornly persistent underrepresentation of female writers in British TV comedy. Now run by writer/performer/producers Kay Stonham, Emily Chase and Chelsea Kania, Female Pilot Club produces showcase productions of comedy pilot scripts written by women for audiences of industry members and comedy lovers.
Female Pilot Club co-founder Kay Stonham co-directs The After Party. She is an award-winning writer, performer and academic.
Alex Hardy who co-directs and co-produces The After Party is an award-winning comedy writer, director and producer.
