Last night saw the opening of The Free Association‘s new permanent comedy venue in Southwark, London – marking its 11th anniversary and celebrated with two performances back to back from two improv teams in The Free Association troop.
Located in Southwark under the old union yard arches, it’s fitting that this brand new theatre venue from The Free Association – London’s biggest name in improvised comedy – is introduced in a buzzing theatrical district of South London, a stone’s throw away from The Old Vic, Young Vic and The Vaults.
The Free Association, founded by Graham Dickson, runs improv classes, business classes as well as putting on live shows many nights a week. The organisation has gained acclaim over the last decade, seeing Ambika Mod, Phil Wang and Liz Kingsman all training there in their careers. Bryce Dallas Howard also attended a workshop with the FA in preparation for the improv comedy film Deep Cover.

The space hosts a 100-seater theatre space – which will host improv comedy shows – a bar and cafe that are both open to the public, as well as a workshop space which will host the FAs workshops and classes.
The brand new venue is a promising step forward in the city’s commitment to comedy, live shows and fostering emerging comedy talent and grassroots theatre.
