Alex Stringer is a Liverpool based, queer, sober comedian. She is bringing her debut fringe hour “Happy Hour” to Edinburgh in August. Chortle Hotshot winner & Best Show nominee at the Women in Comedy Festival, she’s taking a big run up to the moment she’s waited for!
So, Alex tell us about your show…
I got sober in 2017 when I was 23. This is a show about what it’s like once you get sober, discovering who you really are without substances, and what if who you really are is actually also a dickhead? Come and spend a happy hour. The debut fringe hour from Chortle Hotshot 2025, Alex Stringer.

What message do you want your show to leave people with?
I want people to think I’m the best thing since sliced bread & that cold water swimming is a cult. Nah! I want people to think about their relationships to alcohol. I think assessing it & recognising the harm it can have only makes for a healthier society. Also, sober people are better than you. And funnier than you. Hotter too.
How does it feel going to the fringe for the first time?
Mental! Really very much so a dream come true to be honest. I’ve been coming as a punter for over ten years and to finally be doing the full month with my own show really feels like the stuff of dreams. Proper “pinch me” stuff. Also, I want to shit myself.
Have you got any tips for comedians going up for the first time?
I’d say always have a mac/rain coat. Edinburgh weather in August can be a cruel mistress! Also, drink water & don’t party until 3am every night. Also also, be funny. The latter is the main message really.
