Century, an imprint of Penguin Random House, is to publish Me vs Brain: An Overthinker’s Guide to Life, by comedy writer and rising social media star Hayley Morris next year!
Morris won our 2021 heat Content Creator Award and was named ‘TikTok’s funniest comedian’ by the Sunday Times in their Top Faces to Know for 2022, her channels have just under four million followers across her hugely popular Instagram and TikTok.
Set to be published on 23rd March 2023 by Century, Me vs Brain is a warm and witty commentary on living with intrusive thoughts and anxiety. With sparkling humour and unflinching honesty, Morris shows that the overthinking brain is both a blessing and curse. Irreverent yet astute, the book provides commentary on everything from dating to discharge, mental health to menstrual cups with no subject proving too taboo for Morris as she confronts the hilarious (if painful) moments that arise when your brain and body refuse to cooperate.
Morris said: “I cannot even begin to explain how happy I am to be writing this book. Comedy is a lifelong passion of mine. Since I was young, I have been performing comedy sketches my dad would write for my brother and I. No one would see them but they form some of my favourite childhood memories. When I lost my dad in 2021, I decided I wanted to do everything I could to make him proud. He was an incredible writer and wrote a few books in his time, but sadly he never got round to getting them published. Writing Me Vs Brain is not only a dream come true and something I am so excited about; it is also a tribute to my father and everything he taught me. I hope this book will bring people laughter, but I also hope it will help them to feel more comfortable with themselves and to know they are far from being alone in their overthinking.”
Morris started her social media channels in January 2021 after finding herself bored during lockdown, and instantly went viral. Her taboo-smashing comic sketches see her personifying different body parts like ‘Brain’, ‘Uterus’ and ‘Bladder’, dissecting the all too relatable internal dialogues that ping back and forth whilst navigating the challenges of everyday life.
