Funny Women matron Jo Brand is to host a new four-part show on Scala Radio, called On Tour Jo will undertake a virtual journey across the UK.
Listeners are invited to explore classical music from around the country as Jo shares memories of touring the country with her comedy shows.
Jo said: “It is great to be back out on tour, albeit in a slightly different way to what I am used to. I am looking forward to exploring the wonderful classical music the UK has to offer, whilst reminiscing about some of the fun memories I have had while out on the comedy circuit.”
Kicking off in Scotland, Jo will be sharing some of her favourite memories of gigging north of the border while playing some of the very best classical music, from Mendelssohn’s Scottish Symphony to Bruch’s Scottish Fantasy, as well as pieces performed by the Royal Scottish National Orchestra. The episode will examine traditional folk music from Scotland and discover pieces by contemporary composers such as Lorne Balfe and Patrick Doyle, who are making waves on the big and small screen.
Next Jo explores the north of England, starting out in the city of culture, Liverpool, before virtually travelling to Hull, Leeds, and the Lake District with more anecdotes from Jo’s past comedy tours. Listeners will get to sample the rich tradition of brass bands in the north, with music from the Grimethorpe Colliery Band and Black Dyke Band, as well as recordings by the likes of the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, the Hallé Orchestra, Manchester Camerata, the Orchestra of Opera North and the Royal Northern Sinfonia.
In the series, Jo will also visit North Wales, the West and South-West of England with London and the South-East bringing the tour to a close.
On Tour with Jo Brand on Scala Radio begins this Sunday from 6pm to 8pm.
