Athena Kugblenu is set to star and write a four-part stand-up and sketch show which will air on BBC Radio 4. Athena’s Cancel Culture will feature Kugblenu examining, you guessed it, cancel culture and its impact, if any, on celebrity.
Co-starring James McNicholas of sketch trio BEASTS, in each 15-minute episode Kugblenu will chart the history of offence and, echoing her Edinburgh show Follow the Leader, applying the rules of cancel culture to her own very old social media posts.
Produced by Gusman productions, the show blurb says: “Whatever your view, it certainly helps empower fans by diminishing celebrity cultural capital and helping keep their egos and opinions in check. It’s a growing phenomenon that’s left almost no one unscathed, from comedians and actors to musicians and TV hosts. It’s also happening to the not so famous – remember the cat bin lady?”
Athena’s Cancel Culture airs on BBC Radio 4 on Wednesday 7th April at 11pm
