Comedian Tiffany Haddish won the Grammy for Best Comedy Album for her stand up special Black Mitzvah, making Haddish the fourth female solo act to have won the prize in the Grammy’s 62-year history. Haddish is in good company, previous winners include Lily Tomlin, Kathy Griffin and Whoopi Goldberg, who in 1986 became the first woman of colour to win the Award and Haddish’s win makes two.
Haddish beat off competition from Jim Gaffigan, Bill Burr, Patton Oswalt and Jerry Seinfeld. Haddish’s show Black Mitzvah marks her 40th year, her career success and the surprising discovery that Haddish has Jewish heritage.
Black Mitzvah is streaming on Netflix now.
