Climate change is scary and quite rightly, the only thing we should be worried about in current times. No wonder anxiety levels of the population are in record high levels. Why is the government trying to distract us with Leeds F.C? Sorry, you had to be there, but Leeds F.C means Brexit in this context. Better to keep the “B” word unsaid!
Laura Lexx’s show is a tale of politics, faulty perceptions about the world and the things on which we should be focussing our attention, technology, climate deniers, racists and TERFs.
In a very smart and well written show, Laura shows us with no space for argument, why differences shouldn’t be a reason to dislike others and how maybe education is lacking in the teaching of history. As a girl brought up in small town UK, Roman Catholics came into her life later, and it was a surprise to find out there were actually Jewish people living in the UK. The history of the Jewish people is taught in schools at very specific moments in history, that tell students how prosecution drove them away from Europe… there’s no mention of North London in history classes!
In a wonderfully detailed and logical explanation of how different genders are treated throughout their lives, by being taught different things – at such basic levels as PE class – and being given privilege (or have it taken away) by the sole fact that you are taught football or netball at school, Lexx makes it clear that no one _decides_ to be transgender, just so they can more easily access women toilets in an attempt to attack them.
All of this is achieved through the telling of jokes. Yes, laughter is aplenty, both by the sprinkling of jokes throughout the hour, as well as the pure situational comedy. The delivery is impeccable, despite the performer’s worry that she might have lost it after her day off. A few off script stories, blamed on the day off, were hilarious, and made the audience love Laura just that little bit more.
No one can argue with Laura’s logical reasoning and this show should be widely available to the whole world’s population, even be compulsory, as the best way to learn through laughter and get the best comeback for all the TERFs in your life, which I really hope are nonexistent! Oh, wait! Twitter exists!
