Were you at the Edinburgh Fringe? Funny Women were! We had an absolute blast this year, with five Funny Women on the Fringe shows, one of our classic Stand up to Stand Out workshops and we reviewed over 70 shows!

Also at The Fringe were comedians Ayesha Hazarika, Harriet Braine, Rebecca How and Pauline Eyre. For the first time ever, we decided to host an Edinburgh Fringe debrief, discussing learnings and advice with these four brilliant female comics. And what a night it turned out to be.

Throughout this one-hour panel discussion, we covered the topics of preparing and writing material, promotion, and marketing. We then invited the audience to a Q&A with the panel.

So… look out for our series of articles where we give you the lowdown on these discussions! But before you go, read on and get to know our panellists!

Rebecca How and Pauline Eyre are two great advocates of the Funny Women community. To quote Pauline: “I met Rebecca in this very room at Time of the Month” and years on, they delivered their split show Better this year in Edinburgh in which they posed the question: is it better to be young free and single or middle-aged?!

For those of you newer to Funny Women, Harriet Braine won the 2016 Funny Women Awards and took her debut show, Total Eclipse of the Art to Edinburgh in 2017. This year she took Apocolibrary, a work in progress show to Edinburgh and in her own words: “I won’t be taking the show any further!”

Ayesha Hazarika’s show Girl on Girl explores where the #metoo movement goes next and why women are pitted against each other. Ayesha described it as a “polemic, with a strong message.”

Here’s where you can see these comedians perform next:

Ayesha Hazarika: Girl on Girl is at Soho Theatre 22nd – 27th October, for tickets click here!

Pauline Eyre and Rebecca How: Better is at the Museum of Comedy, 14th September, for tickets click here!

November Gig Guide

The evenings are getting darker, the temperatures chillier, the fireworks are exploding a fraction too close in the park, and those early Christmas tree decorators are bursting at the seams, which can only mean one thing: November.
