Amy Annette: What Women Want

Edinburgh Fringe can be a pretty hectic experience, so What Women Want certainly brings some light relief! Hosted by Amy Annette, the comedian and producer, the show is described as a panel of comedians discussing ‘everyone’s favourite topic – women’. And it is certainly refreshing when the panel is made up of, in this case, all women: Rachel Parris, Rosie Jones and Athena Kugblenu.

The topic up for discussion during this edition was ‘fitting in’. The first conversation that sprung up was, unsurprisingly, about women fitting into the comedy scene. As Rachel Parris mentioned, it’s very rare for female comedians to be on the same bill at a comedy show or the same line up on a panel show. She even mentioned Funny Women and the platform it gives other female comedians to actually meet other female comedians and…form friendships!

To quote Rachel: “when we see each other we literally cling to each other and catch up”. What Women Want is literally that: a conversation with multiple women, not performing a routine but talking about serious issues around intersectional feminism but with natural humour. It’s an enjoyable format, where you can just sit back, relax and enjoy a well-moderated panel of smart and funny women sharing their personal experiences… something the female comedy scene certainly needs to embrace.
