After the success of last year’s show at the Edinburgh Fringe, Evelyn Mok is back with a new show.
The comedian is a Swedish Chinese 30 year world woman, living in London for the past five years whose experience living in between these realities subject her to a great deal of culture clashes that she’s been taking note of.
From her upbringing surrounded by Chinese parents, American TV and Swedish teachers, to her life in the UK, where people are less open than their Swedish counterparts, she has many stories to tell and is not afraid to shock people. More than not being afraid to shock people, she revels in the shock in the audience faces.
The stories were a bit scattered and difficult to connect to and the comedian relied a bit too much on the shock factor that wasn’t always successful. Despite the seemingly unique circumstances of her life, the stories she told weren’t that unique or unrelatable, which was probably the reason the preplanned shock didn’t work out. Having not seen her show last year, but having read all the rad reviews, I was a little disappointed about Bubble Butt and so was the audience of the show I attended.
