The Kagools: Kula

The Kagools managed to start making me laugh way before their show started, earlier in the day, as I was walking in the Meadows and encountered their very creative promotional attempts. They have people in small motorised karts drive around the city with posters for Kula, which in a month when everyone ends up having had enough of flyers shoved in their faces, is a very smart way to go.

And do go! The show is a whimsical and silly trip into the world of the Kagools. The two performers are a super expressive pair that manage to say so much through their faces and bodies that really no words are needed. They use a projection of pre-recorded sketches to double the amount of players on stage, and they do it with impressive and perfect timing and coordination. Another way they increase the cast of their two people show is by interacting with the audience throughout the whole show and even inviting some people on stage to have a big part in the action.

The Kagools are filled with energy and infuse it in the audience by almost never stopping, even when they pretend to be sleeping. They commit hard to their gags and show a good example to the members of the audience who are invited on stage, as they go on to commit hard to do a great job and be praised for it. It was also impressive to see the confidence of the comedians as they pulled me on stage, wearing my very visible press lanyard that had until then visibly made other acts avoid me at any of their interactive bits – and I loved participating!

It was another Wednesday, midway through the festival, not hugely attended show, but that is only a loss for the people who weren’t there as those in the crows left the venue with big smiles on their faces.
