Oh the weather outside is frightful… And while we can snuggle indoors and put on a novelty onesie (or put the heating on, I don’t know your life) there is an increasing number of people who will be sleeping rough tonight. The charity for young homeless people Centrepoint is holding their flagship fundraising event Sleep Out again this November and one of the sleeper outers is comedy writer and promoter, Lucy Danser, who is hoping to raise £400 for the charity.
Lucy runs Chatback Comedy and Camden Comedy Club. Lucy is taking part in the Sleep Out because: “The weather’s getting chillier and even the house is cold. I can’t imagine how awful it is to be outside at this time of year and yet there’s so many people doing exactly that. Every time that I see people on then street at this time of year it hits me how awful that is and how little I am doing/know what to do to help. Centrepoint helps young people by supporting more than 9,000 homeless 16-25 year olds a year into a home and a job. This year loads of us will be sleeping out for just one night on 24th November to help raise money for them to do this. Do support us if you can!”
2500 people are set to sleep in 12 locations across the UK as part of the November 2016 Sleep Out challenge. Centrepoint is challenging people like Lucy to grab a sleeping bag and sleep out in selected locations because rough sleeping is on the rise. 26% of young people in the UK have slept in an unsafe space simply because they have nowhere else to go. Those taking part will be provided with hot drinks, and evening meal and breakfast. Most of those truly sleeping rough will not be so lucky, which is why Centrepoint hopes to raise £500,000 to ensure vulnerable young people get the support they need to turn their lives around.

If you’d like to take part there is still time to register to sleep out for Centrepoint, find out more here!
