Zoe Lyons – Little Misfit

Zoe Lyons feels like she has never fitted in anywhere. Whilst the 2004 Funny Women Awards winner acknowledges this is not uncommon in the comedy world – in fact it’s a favourite subject – she believes certain aspects of her childhood gives her the edge on the misfit genre.

The subject might not be the most original but the joyfulness and satisfaction Zoe takes in her life as a middle aged happily married woman is pretty hard to find in most Edinburgh Fringe shows. Many comics seem to struggle to find the comedy in happiness but Zoe celebrates the happiness she finds in her Dutch wife’s European manners, her possession of an Irish passport and what she finds dumped on the streets of Brighton, by the bins but not in the bins.

Don’t be fooled though, just because she has a positive attitude doesn’t mean Zoe isn’t ready with acerbic takes on 1970s Irish Catholicism, youth and a certain, very specific, heckle about quotas. Little Misfit is a must see.
