Essex entrepreneurial pub landlady and wannabe cougar Dolly Slatemen makes her debut in Red Hat No Nickers, a one-woman show at the Camden Fringe.
Dolly is set to pull more than pints and punches in her quest to win landlady of the year, and all the local fame and recognition this comes with.
Join her in her comical world with a host of pub regulars, in the form of cameo impersonations, from Mental Maureen and Broadsheet Bob to Minty Mick – whose breath, Dolly can tell you, could give you a face peel.
Dolly Slateman is a character created by Funny Women alumni Debbie Baisden, who has been honing this persona through stand up all across the country and festivals.
As an ex-landlady in Ilford and Dagenham, Debbie uses Dolly as a comedy creation to reflect her real life experiences of pub trade.
For Debbie, Dolly represents “the forgotten voice of middle aged Essex that’s been hijacked by the TOWIE phenomenon and I wanted to bring to the stage another side to the brashness, even though Dolly thinks of herself as the ultimate MILF and is proud of it! For me, Dolly allows me to touch base with my roots and explore a sub-culture that, from a woman’s point of view, has been long overlooked.”
Red Hat, No Nickers will be performed on the 13th and 14th May at the Hen & Chickens, 109 St Paul’s Road, London. N1 2NA, and also at the Brighton Fringe at Village Brighton on June 2nd, 4th and 5th.
