Fancy a five day comedy course? This September Ivor Baddiel and Alexis Zegerman are leading a comedy course with Arvon, the leading UK charity offering creative writing residential courses.
The course will take place in one of Arvon’s three countryside retreats, Totleigh Barton in Devon. The course will build from the basics of gag writing to developing comic characters and creating comedy scripts.
The course is for everyone, whether you want to hone a project, try out a new idea or get some inspiration. There will also be an optional stand-up session for those who’d like to attend, including work on joke writing and comedy personas.
The tutors are both nationally established comedians and writers. Ivor Baddiel has been writing comedy for television, radio and whoever pays for 20 years. He’s written for Stephen Fry, Graham Norton and Joan Rivers to name a few, and credits include The BAFTAs, Mock the Week and Comic Relief. Alexis Zegerman is an award-winning actress and writer working across theatre, TV, film and radio. She was writer-in-residence at Hampstead Theatre where her play Lucky Seven premiered. She is currently writing a comedy feature for BBC Films.

On Wednesday evening Tracy-Ann Oberman will also join the group, read from her own work and answer questions about comedy writing. Tracy-Ann Oberman’s various acting roles have included playing opposite Kenneth Branagh on stage and murdering Dirty Den in Eastenders. As a writer, she won the BBC Comedy Green Light award and has written a trilogy of plays for BBC Radio 4.
The course will take place in Totleigh Barton from Monday 7th to Saturday 12th September 2015.
