Autumn is finally upon us and with it sees the second Women in Comedy Festival!
We will be there for the final weekend of the festival running our 'Stand Up to Stand Out' workshop for those inspired by all the great female comedy in the festival. We will be on hand to give you some insights in to how to perform and write comedy with this popular comedy workshops – the fun takes place at The Kings Arms in Salford, where we have held heats for the Funny Women Awards for the last three years, on Saturday 25th October from 4.00 to 6.00pm.
We are giving you the opportunity to not just watch women do comedy, but have a go at it yourself! The workshop will be facilitated by the founder of Funny Women, Lynne Parker, and we will have our team on hand to help and advise you about how to make comedy your business. And who knows, you could be joining our comedians on stage that evening in your first ever stand up gig!
In the evening you can attend a showcase of female talent who began their comedy careers at our workshops. Hosted by 2013 Funny Women Awards finalist, Dotty Winters and featuring fellow 2013 finalist Sindhu V, we have 2012 finalist Cerys Nelmes headlining.
Some of the best names in female comedy will be gathering in Salford, Greater Manchester from Saturday 11th October until Sunday 26th October. 2004 Funny Women Awards winner Zoe Lyons, Luisa Omielan, Barbara Nice and Kate Smurthwaite are among the fantastic comedians taking part in the festival.
Peep Show and Shameless star Isy Suttie is a patron of this year’s festival, she says: “It surprises me how many audiences haven’t seen girls do comedy before, and some promoters are still very bad at booking women for their gigs…Anything that works to get rid of that being an issue by putting on funny women is fantastic and the festival is a brilliant thing.”
