May 2014 saw the city of Brighton and Hove come to life with the annual Brighton Fringe Festival and the Brighton Festival. Many of our Funny Women were at the Brighton Fringe doing various shows, we even had our Funny Women Awards heats at the weekend as part of the Fringe at the Komedia
in Brighton.

We were excited to see that two of our Funny Women semi-finalists 2013 and competitors from this year’s heats were in the top four nominees for the Latest Best Female Performer Award. Jane Postlethwaite and Liz Peters were both nominees for the prestigious award. Liz was starring in her debut one woman musical show Toybox and performing with the Brighton based improvisation troupe, The Maydays.  Jane has been performing comedy plays with the award winning Bite-Size Productions team throughout the festival, while also doing stand up and appearing in a work in progress show called 'Farmhouse' which she co-wrote and performed in with her partner Andy Bridge.

The nominees for the Best Female Performer were :

Liz Peters (Toybox)

Kate Goodfellow (Smoking Ban)

Jane Postlethwaite (Bite-Size),

Emma Sarjeant (Jerk)

Kate Goodfellow won the award for her work in 'Smoking Ban', a 70 minute one woman show which is being taken up to Edinburgh Festival this year. The full list of award winners and nominees can be seen here.
