Fresh from its sell out run at the Tea House Theatre and Etcetera Theatre, Laundrette Superstar arrives at the Space for three extra-special performances as part of the One Festival 2014.
'Fortuna' is a self-proclaimed synthpop superstar and part-time laundrette assistant who lives in her Grandma's basement (it's just temporary yeah!) She's convinced that she's on the cusp of big things… if you can call "big things" performing live in a gift shop, mortuary and poorly lit car park.
This one-woman musical comedy brings together stand-up, high fashion, theatrical storytelling and comedy synthpop into an hour-long fun-filled extravaganza described by reviewers as 'AB Fab meets Flight of the Conchords'! This is definitely a show not to be missed.
Praise for Laundrette Superstar:
"Burke has the audience in her palms right from the get go as Fortuna, the wannabe star, with her innocent love of Tom Cruise and the pride of her synth-pop award (very prestigious you know…)" – Broadway Baby ****
"On the odd glorious occasion – a comedienne does indeed come along that, who not only holds her own against the male comedy giants we all know and love but, proudly, surpasses them in "laugh out loud", comedy value. On this occasion, I'm excited to say I am, very much, talking about Fortuna Burke: Laundrette Superstar." – Female Arts ****
"It's Burke's comic delivery which makes the character charismatic and endearing…" – Views From The Gods ****
You can catch Laundrette Superstar as part of Programme B at the One Festival on the 23rd and 31st January (8:00pm) and 26th January (2:00pm). For more info and to book tickets, click here.
