“No more jokes. No more laughter. Everyone is changed once they look into The Telescope, Claudia O'Doherty’s first foray into confronting, upsetting theatre. The show will not be funny."
I was drawn to see this show by the above description, along with the fact that it’s produced by The Invisible Dot, who curate some of the best alternative shows in London, as well as producing Tim Key’s current tour.
Fresh from the end of her forcible training period at Australian comedy camp ‘The Nuthouse’ this is her last contractually obligated performance – A multi-media, multi-character foolproof one woman show she has set up to run continuously so that nothing can go wrong.
The show is perfectly paced, with the elements of a breakdown woven into a collapsing play that still would have been funny without the post-modern twist.
This is deconstructionist, anti-comedy at it’s very best. O’Doherty’s energy is unrelenting. I left the show with exhausted satisfaction I hadn’t felt since the last time I’d seen Adam Riches. One of the best things I’ve seen at this year’s Fringe.
