Executive producer of Funny Women, Lynne Parker, and comedian, Josie Long, have both been nominated as two of ‘One Hundred Women: The Unseen Powerful Women Who Change The World’, as compiled by the charity One World Action.
The arts and media play a fundamental role in shaping how we understand and engage with the world. Female artists, writers, journalists and performers all challenge stereotypes and preconceptions. New types of media can challenge authority and provide alternative ways of organising. The women nominated in the arts and media category have made a difference in a range of ways.
Lynne Parker has been nominated for ‘Creating a colourful stage in many different guises for women of all shapes and sizes to find their comedy voice.’ She was nominated by Hela Wozniak-Kay, director of Sister Snog. Comedian, Josie Long, was nominated by Hannah Davies of One World Action, for ‘raising awareness of political causes through humour.’
One World Action is an international development organisation focusing on promoting the rights of women, working with 41 local partners in 19 countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America. The organisation aims to improve the political participation of women in these countries through helping them make decisions about their own lives. They do this by providing funding, training, capacity building, networking and other opportunities.
The list was compiled through nominations – via networks, word of mouth and social media. The nominees include women from over 30 countries and span an extraordinary range of activity including Public Service, Business and Entrepreneurship and Human Rights, as well as Arts and Media.
