Charlie Appleton of film and multi media production company Cora Media, who has been working with us on Race for Life this year, is lucky to have escaped with her life following a series of fires at her flat which she shares with six other people in Holloway Road, London.

This has no connection with the recent riots but her experience demonstrates just how important it is to be aware of the dangers of fire and have fully functioning smoke alarms working in your home at all time.  What started out as a light-hearted bit of film making about protecting themselves from would-be rioters, ended up as grim reality when the house mates pretty much lost everything in a freak break out of fire in their flat above a shop.  Charlie was woken from sleep by the only full functioning smoke alarm in the flat and managed to alert the rest of the occupants.

Despite devastating fire and water damage and losing much of her treasured posessions, Charlie rescued her film equipment which is how she managed to create this very sobering bit of film – watch and learn.

Charlie is still in business and we'll be working with her on this year's Funny Women Awards final.  If you can spread her message about smoke alarms, please link to her YouTube as well.

Thank you.

Lynne Parker.
