Alternatives to housework

Kudos to you if you’re the type who loves to clean the house. This is an enthusiasm that my Mum clearly didn’t pass down to me. She polishes, scrubs and wipes surfaces like a woman possessed. I watch, stricken with horror and reluctance. My idea of hoovering is ‘hoovering up the crumbs at the bottom […]

Sorry, you’re just not my typeface

Some people (I say ‘some people’ – mainly writers) have a font that they prefer typing in. I’ve quite liked both Calibri and Century Gothic for a long time. There’s one client that asks for all copy to be set in Arial, and the rest of the time Helvetica will usually do. The manner in […]

Being a boomerang

Yeah, I became one of the ‘boomerang kids’ this month. I shoved everything I own into double-walled cardboard boxes and did the boomerang shuffle. Who in their life has ever shown such rampant enthusiasm for a mop? The Representation Project’s YouTube channel put up one […]

Ladyfest, Montreal’s comedy festival

I can’t think of any comedy festival that has a narwhal as a mascot. At least, I couldn’t until I heard about Montreal’s Ladyfest. With a mix of funny women, improv, a confidence-building workshop and a brave soul in a narwhal costume. (As an aside, you wouldn’t believe how easy it was to find a […]
