Hannah Power is an Irish writer and actor living in London! Her show Don’t Tell Dad About Diana, co-written with Conor Murray, is heading to Underbelly’s Belly Dancer for the month of August!

Tell us about your show?
Don’t Tell Dad About Diana is set in Dublin in 1997. It follows two teen friends as they prepare to compete for the crown of ‘Alternative Miss Ireland’ with their Princess Diana drag act, under the nose of their hardline Irish nationalist families. As they race through the city towards competition night, Diana’s death sparks the unravelling of their secret, their friendship and their plans to leave Ireland.
At its heart, it’s a story about a formative friendship on the cusp of great change. It’s about the choice between leaving home in search of something new or staying behind to try and build something better. Beyond the big questions, it’s also an absolute blast!
How does it feel to be going to the Fringe for the first time?
Exciting! And definitely stresssssful. I’ve never been to Edinburgh before, so going for the first time with a show I’ve written with Conor feels like a very special way to do it. The slog of actually bringing a show to the festival is just about over and so now I’m just buzzing to be performing with my best pal every day. I’ve been trying to take the advice of any seasoned Fringers we’ve met, that it’s a marathon, not a sprint, so I’ll be doing my best not to completely lose the run of myself in the first week!
Who are the funny women you would recommend seeing in Edinburgh this year?
Very very excited to see Cat Cohen! And of course, the hilarious Rachel Galvo.
