Shetland-born standup and Funny Women Awards 2022 runner up, Marjolein Robertson, is taking her award-nominated show, O, on tour in 2025 after a sell-out run at Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
O is the second show in Marjolein’s standup trilogy, which takes a look at women’s health with the beats of a Shetland folktale. Where Marj explored how mental health is effected by an abusive relationship; ‘O’ explores physical health using Marjolein’s own story and issues with menstrual health.
Not for the faint of heart the show performed at Edinburgh Fringe Festival this year with nine people fainting and 18 walking out! Although a shocking and honest show, it’s not done for the sake of it, it’s entertaining, confronting and also has the power to save lives. Performed in chronological order, O shares a story of near death, detailing complications with her period at 16 followed by 14 long years of asking for help before finding the ‘key’ to the NHS in terms of menstrual health. This ‘key’ finally leads Marjolein to her diagnosis of adenoymyosis. But now what?
Just like her first show, Marj, O has proven to be a huge help and solace to those who have suffered, or who have loved ones suffer from the same or similar conditions and experiences. From both her shows, Marjolein has been inundated with messages from audience members who have faced the same struggles and pain. Marjolein has once again written a comedy show that audiences can take solace in and benefit from.
To date, O has been nominated for Next Up’s Biggest Award in Comedy and was also officially listed as one of the top reviewed shows of the 2024 Edinburgh Fringe during its sold-out extended run.
‘This is my favourite hour to-date to perform. It has some of my favourite jokes, but I am so glad to finally share this story in a way which can have people leaving empowered about their own bodies. Unless they faint. Cause that keeps happening too. My bad. Or should I say, my uteruses’ bad?’ – Marjolein Robertson
A popular favourite on the comedy circuit, Marjolein was recently a finalist in Channel 4’s Sean Lock Comedy Awards 2024, and in the BBC New Comedy Awards 2022 and was also awarded Scots Speaker of the Year in the same year. She is a regular panelist on BBC’s Breaking The News, and has performed standup on UKTV’s Rosie Jones’ Disability Comedy Extravaganza and Comedy Central Live. Marjolein has appeared on numerous chart-topping comedy podcasts including Harry Hill’s Are We There Yet?, Richard Herring’s RHLSTP, Some Laugh and Scroobius Pip’s Distractions Pieces podcast.
O is being performed across the UK from 5 February 2025 through to Wednesday 19 March. Book tickets here.
