Tell us about your show?
I think a lot about growing up so why not dedicate an entire Edinburgh show to the subject? Jeans and a Nice Top is my debut show about growing up in the 90s and early 00s. It’s fun, silly, and nostalgic. It’s a multimedia show with stand-up and funny videos. It’s gone down really well with audiences so far!
Why is it called ‘Jeans and a Nice Top’?
It’s called Jeans and a nice top as that is an absolute throwback expression from the late 90s early 00s. If you were going on a night out, to Alton Towers, to the park with friends what were you wearing? Jeans and a nice top! Plus, I just thought it was funny to call my show that. I will be wearing jeans and t-shirts, and I’m even having t-shirts made that say ‘A nice top’ which I’ll be selling after the show. Come to the show and buy a funny t-shirt!
How does it feel to be performing at Edinburgh Fringe?
It feels exciting and a bit daunting to be honest. I have never been up for a full month before. I am really excited for people to see the show, it’s a fun one! I always make new friends at the fringe. I love making new friends, it’s good to replace the old ones that you are a bit bored of! Ha ha!
Have you got any tips for comedians going up to the festival for the first time?
Just try to have fun. If it’s not fun then what is the point in putting yourself through it all. Also, if you are doing the full run, then pace the fun a bit. You don’t want to go too hard in the first two weeks and burn out. Ignore the FOMO if you need a night in.
Who are the funny women you would recommend seeing in Edinburgh this year?
Katie Norris, Alexandra Haddow, and Lorna Rose Treen will all be fab!
Lou Taylor: Jeans and a Nice Top, 31 July – 25 August (not 12th August) at 8.30pm at Pleasance Courtyard (Bunker Three). Book tickets here.
