We’ve kicked off 2024 with some amazing news – both of the BBC Radio 4 programmes Archive on 4 – 20 Years of Funny Women and Funny Women at 20 are nominated for the Radio Entertainment Show category in the British Comedy Awards 2023.
Co-produced with Mighty Bunny’s Victoria Lloyd and independent producer Laura Grimshaw and commissioned by BBC Radio 4’s Julian McKenzie both programmes are available to listen to on BBC Sounds.
Celebrating 20 years of the Funny Women Awards, 20 Years of Funny Women, presented by Kerry Godliman, is a BBC Radio 4 special featuring archive performances and interviews with some of the biggest names in comedy including Funny Women alumni Diane Morgan, Zoe Lyons, Rachel Parris, Desiree Burch, Sindhu Vee, Jessica Fostekew, Charlie George, Amy Gledhill, Thanyia Moore and Gemma Whelan.
This was first transmitted a week before the 2023 Awards final on 28th September and includes conversations with all of the 2022 Award winners and interviews with Funny Women founder Lynne Parker and ‘Matron’ Jo Brand.
The second programme, Funny Women At 20 presents highlights and backstage interviews from the 20th Anniversary Awards final recorded live at the Bloomsbury Theatre in London. Jo Brand hosted performances by 10 acts competing for the prestigious Stage Award which was won by Kate Cheka.
Both programmes face some stiff competition in their category which includes nominations by many funny women who have taken part in our Awards and community events over the last 20 years. Our legacy lives on.
You can vote here until midnight on Sunday 7th January and if we make the shortlist please vote for us again!
