Here it is, your ultimate monthly guide to all (well a small fraction of, actually, because if I put all of them we’d be here for years) of the best comedy shows happening this November across the UK. So put away your pumpkins and get out the big coat, to brave the outdoors and then immediately go inside again, for some stellar comedy. This month, we’ve got live shows from some comedy legends, with careers spanning 4 decades, some sparkling newer acts on the circuit, as well as some fantastic comedy showcases to recommend.

1. TOUR SHOWS AND WIPS

RUBY WAX: I’M NOT AS WELL AS I THOUGHT I WAS

Tues 7 Nov @ 7:30 PM, Tyne Theatre, Newcastle, (plus more dates and venues)

The living legend Ruby Wax is touring her show with a few stops in the UK this month. From acting at the RSC, presenting her own TV shows, writing for the sit-com Ab Fab in the 90s-00s, to becoming an author and being awarded an OBE for her services to mental health in the UK, Wax has contributed an incredible amount to the UK both for her comedy and mental health efforts.

SARAH MILLICAN: LATE BLOOMER

Wed 8 Nov @ 6:00 PM, The O2, London, (plus more dates and venues)

Having graced our screens for over a decade on panel shows, won the Edinburgh Award, done 7 stand up tour shows, written a book, hosted a podcast, (I could be missing something here), there isn’t much Sarah Millican hasn’t done in the world of comedy and entertainment. Embarking on her 7th tour show Late Bloomer, you can catch her all over the UK from now until October 2024.

HELEN BAUER: GRAND SUPREME DARLING PRINCESS

Thurs 9 Nov @ 8:00 PM, Hen and Chickens, Bristol, (plus more dates and venues)

Part of her first ever tour, Helen Bauer has been gracing us with her hour show Grand Supreme Darling Princess all over the UK, with a few dates in Europe as well, until March. Bauer is a comedy force, who you simply cannot miss.

JESSICA FOSTEKEW: POTENCH? (WIP)

Nominated for best show at the Edinburgh Comedy Awards in 2019, Jessica Fostekew since has written for Mock The Week, performed on Live at the Apollo, and now she brings her work in progress show to London.

LEILA NAVABI: COMPOSITION

Tues – Sat 14 – 18 Nov @ 8:45 PM, Soho Theatre 

Leila Navabi is a punk, musical comedian, who’s clever, mischievous gags on her experience with certain news outlets and politicians in her debut hour show Composition, took Edinburgh by storm. Catch the 5 night run of her show at Soho Theatre, you can grab a ticket here!

THE GUILTY FEMINIST

If you haven’t heard of The Guilty Feminist podcast by now, hell, you might be a lost cause. The comedy podcast about the difficulties of being a feminist hosted by Deborah Frances-White with over 100 million streams globally, is coming to Soho Theatre for a week, with some fantastic guests, including: Alison Spittle (@alisonspittle), Sikisa (@sikisacomedy), Jessica Fostekew (@jessicafostekew), and Shaparak Khorsandi (@shappikhorsandi). HARRIET KEMSLEY: FUN NEW SHOW, NO CHAOS, V SERIOUS

Harriet Kemsley is fantastically funny, and has some major credits including appearing on Roast Battle, 8 Out of 10 Cats and Comedy Central, she also has a podcast, and recorded her first stand up special earlier this year Woman Child.

MINORITY REPORT: A STAND UP BENEFIT FOR PEACE

This is a comedy showcase for peace, in aid of the horrific events happening in Gaza and Israel, with ticket sales going towards the following peace charities: Children of Peace, the IFRC, and MDA UK. The line up includes Harry Hill, Shaparak Khorsandi, Jeff Innocent, Sadia Azmat, Red Richardson, Laura Smyth and more.

BROWN SAUCE

Brown Sauce Comedy Club is a South Asian comedy showcase, which features dazzling comedy from brand new acts to household names. November’s showcase includes fantastic acts such as: Sharlin Jahan, Sunil Patel, Pateek Srivastava, Su Mi (Funny Women Award Nominee 2023), Priya Hall and Leila Navabi.

Comedy Shorts Award Entry Requirements

The deadline for registration for the Comedy Shorts Award has passed.

Funny Women NextUp…Comedy Shorts Award

Are you a budding Director? Producer? Screenwriter? Are you collaborating with friends to make a funny video? Then we are looking for YOU!

If you have a short film or sketch that you think is hilarious, then enter your work for our Comedy Shorts Award to be in with a chance of winning some life-changing support and mentoring from comedy professionals.

WHAT KIND OF FILM ARE YOU LOOKING FOR?

A 1- 6 minute film that can take the form of anything comical. It’s a great opportunity to show us your creative flair and have fun!

WHO CAN ENTER?

This award is open to all women filmmakers and content developers. The film must be an original narrative created, produced and devised by a woman, or women, although male cast and crew members are allowed.

ARE THERE ANY ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR MY FILM?

Yes – we require all films to be 6 minutes or under, to be entirely original dialogue, to not feature brand logos and most importantly, to only use music with the written consent of the performer and/or publisher either personally or via the PRS system https://www.prsformusic.com/ .

WHAT WILL YOU DO WITH MY FILM?

We will broadcast selected entries on our Funny Women YouTube channel and social media (so keep an eye out) and the top 10 finalists’ films will also hosted on a dedicated Funny Women Comedy Shorts Awards page on our website. We will also broadcast the final 3 entries as part of the grand final night.

HOW IS IT JUDGED?

Films are judged for production, concept, delivery/performance, creativity, writing and overall funniness. The top 10 films are then viewed by an independent judging panel of top television and film industry professionals who will choose one overall winner and two runners up. The final three will be invited to attend the grand final in London on the 23rd September.
