The Funny Women Comedy Industry Award supported by The Comedy Crowd is an industry nominated award, created to recognise the unsung heroines working tirelessly behind the scenes in the comedy industry.
Whilst acknowledging that comedy is an incredibly hard profession for almost anyone to break into and make a living, this award celebrates the talent and tenacity of the women performers, writers and creators of Britain and Ireland, who have overcome the clearly disproportionate barriers to entry to succeed in this highly competitive field.
Now in its fourth year, they will join Amy Annette (Winner 2022), Sophie Duker (Winner 2021) and Christine Rose (Winner 2020) in our Hall of Fame and will take a share of the prize pot worth £5k, kindly sponsored by ITV. We were delighted to reveal our Top 3 Nominated Artists.
Sarah Bowles

Sarah says:
“It would mean the world to me for my work on the ISH Awards to be recognised by winning this award – we love awards after all! We wanted to being some positivity to the Edinburgh Fringe to help boost comedians who have struggled since Covid.
“We have been overwhelmed with the support we have received and recognition would only make it easier to increase the benefits to all those who work so hard in the industry.”
Sarah-Louise Young

Sarah-Louise says:
“Lynn Ruth Miller was a dear friend, loved my so many people. It was a privilege to be allowed to care for her in the last few weeks of her life and help organise her memorial – which was a massive team effort.
“She and I spoke often about the importance of women championing other women and when I set up the Female & Female Identifying Solo Theatremakers Collective with Victoria Melody, I had her very much in mind. The more that women share, support, encourage, empower and celebrate each other, the better the industry is for all of us.
“There are lots of brilliant women out there doing just this and I’m deeply honoured to be acknowledged for my small part in hopefully making the arts a safer, more positive and welcoming place. Thank you.”
Vix Leyton

Vix says::
“Since taking the fateful step of signing up to the Funny Women Stand Up to Stand Out workshop, stand up comedy has been my home and enabled me to do great things beyond my wildest dreams.
“The graft that goes into not only finding opportunities but also trying to create them is often very much under the radar so even the existence of this award is galvanising and brilliant – there are so many women working very hard to make comedy a viable option for women and I’m touched beyond measure that I am somehow doing enough to get this nod.
“I am proud to do everything I can – through the podcasts, my nights and just by sharing my experiences – to flood the stand up circuit with strong, brilliant female voices and recruit more.”
