A new competition has been launched by NextUp, our streaming partner for this year’s Funny Women Awards and supporter of the Stage Award, to find the best comedy show at the Edinburgh Fringe. The winner receives what is undeniably the BIGGEST award in comedy ever.
The winning act will receive a two-metre-high inflatable trophy (literally the biggest award in comedy) plus: an air pump, a carry case so the lucky winner can proudly display it wherever they go, £500 cash, a headline slot at the Comedy Store London and the option to have their special recorded for the NextUp platform.
Daniel Berg, co-founder of NextUp says: “This ridiculous award is what happens when there’s a team brainstorm! The award talks to NextUp’s mission of curating and amplifying the best live comedy to fans worldwide. Whilst for comedians, it’s a chance to win £500 and literally the biggest award in comedy ever. That’s quite an accolade, and of course – an immense physical burden.”
Voting is open now at nextupcomedy.com/bigaward and a winner will be announced on the 25th August and presented with their two-metre high trophy (which can be deflated and stored by NextUp if it’s too big for the mantelpiece).
The award is open to any comedy show over 50 minutes long, programmed for more than 20 days at the Edinburgh Fringe. Only NextUp users can vote, and there’s one vote per person.
NextUp Comedy is a worldwide live comedy streaming service specialising in live comedy. Over 60 livestreams are being filmed at The Edinburgh Festival Fringe by NextUp this August – a world first. NextUp will also stream the live final of the 2022 Funny Women Awards at the Bloomsbury Theatre, London, on Thursday 29th September. Tickets on sale here.
NextUp shares all revenue 50/50 with comedians and supports social impact initiatives within the comedy community such as their Heckle The Virus campaign that raised over £100k facing hardship during COVID-19.
