Comedian Bridget Christie and actor Miriam Margolyes were among this year’s winners of the BBC Audio Drama Awards at a ceremony hosted by Andy Zaltzman at the BBC Radio Theatre, London.
Christie’s Radio 4 series Mortal, which addresses some of life’s difficult questions scored her the comedy prize. Meanwhile, Margolyes was awarded the lifetime achievement award. Via a video link from Australia, Margolyes said: “I cannot tell you have thrilled I am to be given this award. I’ve done my best work in radio, I shall love it till I die.”
Sioned Wiliam, who is leaving her post as Radio 4’s commissioning editor for comedy, won the outstanding contribution award. Wiliam has been instrumental in the careers of Rosie Jones and Mae Martin among others.
The BBC’s chief content officer, Charlotte Moore, said: “Tonight’s awards recognise how all of the talented individuals – both in front of and behind the microphones and mixing desks – make audio the booming medium it is today.
“Thank you for your commitment to this wonderful genre, and for delighting the millions of listeners who tune in, week after week.”
