BBC Scotland has announced they have commissioned a whole host of women led comedy shows, featuring talent such as Janey Godley, 2017 Funny Women Awards finalist Susan Riddell, Ashley Storrie and more.
In Ashley & Janey Get A Real Job, mother and daughter comics Godley and Storrie compete against each other in a variety of workplaces, from fishing boats to factories, to impress their bosses and win the title of employee of the day.
Chewin’ The Fat star Karen Dunbar will host an hour-long show set to air next year called The Comedy Of Offence, which examines how a comedian navigates taste and offence in a ‘woke world’.
Next month a series of four comedy shorts will be aired on BBC Scotland and then available on iPlayer. Kicking off the series is Dregs, written by and starring Susan Riddell. Riddell plays a woman who has had to move in with her mum and work her old Saturday job after her boyfriend breaks up with her.
Comedy duo Gayle Telfer Stevens and Louise McCarthy will perform in their new sketch show Stevens & McCarthy and in Two For One Kendra McPherson and Joyce Falconer bond while working in a department store, discussing everything from romance to spirituality. Finally, impressionist Elizabeth Caproni leads an all-female sketch show Who Runs The World?
BBC commissioning executive Gavin Smith said: “We’re delighted to announce this new selection of titles for iPlayer and the channel that showcases some of Scotland’s top female comedy writing, presenting and performing talent.
“It’s great to see a mix of new and established names bringing fresh laughs to the Scottish audience.”
