Writer and comedian Miranda Hart has quit the production company King Bert, which she set up with fellow comedian David Walliams five years ago with producer Jo Sargent.
The company has produced programmes such as BBC One comedy Big School, Sick Note and TV adaptations of David Walliams’ children’s books and the pair appeared in Gangsta Granny. King Bert also produced the last Miranda Christmas special. The production company will not be involved in the upcoming Miranda special, filmed at the London Palladium.
It transpires that Hart stood down from her position of director in May last spring, a source told the Mail on Sunday: “David and Miranda were exceptionally close at the beginning of this, now they are working very much apart. Miranda and David love the behind-the-scenes work as much as they do the on-camera stuff, but it just wasn’t to be. Miranda has gone off to do her own thing.”
A spokesperson for Walliams said: “‘In 2016 Miranda decided that she didn’t want to be a director of a company and instead wanted to focus more on writing and acting.”
