Ben Elton’s Upstart Crow is coming to the Gielgud Theatre on Shaftesbury Avenue in February. Both David Mitchell and Gemma Whelan, who won the Funny Women Variety Award in 2010, will be reprising their roles for the stage version.

The stage show which will be set in 1605 and will feature Shakespeare desperately trying to come up with a new plot, as family troubles distract him from his task. In a nod to Shakespeare’s canon, there will also be a pair of cross-dressing identical twins causing confusion.

In the meantime, Gemma Whelan’s character Kate will be trying to free a dancing bear, Mrs Whiskers, from the Globe.

David Mitchell promises: “Theatre-goers can look forward to a comedy steeped in authentic Shakespearean ambience in every way apart from the smell.”

Upstart Crow is at the Gielgud Theatre from 7th February. For tickets and more information click here!
