Comedian, podcaster and one third of sketch trio Massive Dad, Stevie Martin is back at the Edinburgh Fringe, following up her critically acclaimed debut with a brand new show, Hot Content. We caught up with Stevie to talk about how this year’s show includes sketches, jokes and structure…
Funny Women: Tell us about your show Hot Content
Stevie Martin:Hot Content is about how addicted we all are to social media and our smartphones, and how #content is actually not as #hot as you’d think. I used to have a job in digital content and it opened my eyes to a lot.
FW: Last year your debut show Vol.1 consisted of a lot of openings, to follow up is Hot Content a lot of middles?
SM: Haha no! This is more of a straightforward show – it’s a mixture of standup, sketches and set pieces with a beginning, a middle and an end.
FW: Is there any advice you wish someone had given you for your debut that you’d like to pass on to comedians taking a show up to Edinburgh for the first time?
SM: The pressure sometimes feels enormous but try not to read your reviews until after the Fringe when you’re on a beach. Also, don’t compare yourself to other people. If anyone can work out how to follow this advice, let me know.
FW: Which women are you hoping to see at this year’s Fringe?
SM: Gabby Best, Lucy Pearman, Lou Sanders and Sophie Duker. All great people doing great comedy.
Stevie Martin: Hot Content is at the Underbelly, Bristo Square, Buttercup until 25th August at 18:35. For tickets and more information click here!
