Mae Martin is working on a semi-autobiographical comedy for E4, Netflix and Objective Fiction with the working title Mae And George. The writer and comedian will play a loose version of herself, a stand-up dealing with her sexuality and sobriety who has just entered into a new relationship with girlfriend George.
The six episodes have been co-written with Joe Hampson and are the result of an unbroadcast 2017 pilot. Just like Mae’s show Dope the sitcom touches on addiction and the subjects of sexuality and gender fluidity, which Mae addressed in her 2015 stand up show Us as well as in her radio show and book Mae Martin’s Guide to 21st Century Sexuality.
Martin said: “We cannot wait to make this show with E4, Netflix, and Objective Fiction – what a dream. I’m especially pumped to be co-writing Mae And George with my best friend Joe Hampson. He has such an incredible head of hair. We are excited to make a show that is both funny and sad, like our lives, and I hope they’ve factored therapy into the budget because I’m already hanging by a thread.”
