Netflix is to embark on a new project described as a “groundbreaking event series” featuring half-hour specials from 47 comedians from around the world. Among them, representing the UK, are Funny Women favourites Ellie Taylor and Mae Martin!

The pair are in good company, with Nish Kumar and Joel Dommett completing the UK set in the series, for which there is no title as yet.

The specials will be released at once on the streaming site in 2019. Netflix plans to film some of the sets at Montreal’s Just For Laughs festival this month, although, in keeping with the international theme other sets will be filmed in São Paulo, Mexico City, Mumbai, Berlin and Amsterdam, featuring seven languages: French, Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic, Dutch, German and English.

Lisa Nishimura, the Netflix vice-president responsible for comedy, said: “Few things are better than discovering a new comedian you love. With this event, we’re creating a true comedy festival experience for our members where they can scour the globe from home to find some of the freshest voices in comedy.”
