Funny Women has been going since 2002! This means that as well as helping 1000s of women kickstart their comedy careers and seeing tonnes of comedy talent over the last 15 years, we have accumulated a lot of…stuff. Flyers, programmes from shows, press cuttings, judging sheets from the Funny Women Awards, reviews, interviews, video recordings, you name it, we probably have it squirrelled away somewhere. Until now!
Now we have our own Funny Women Collection housed in the Templeman Library at the University of Kent. We are in good company as the university is also the home of the British Stand Up Comedy Archive no less – to which we’ve added our own very unique slice to the history of women in comedy!
Our founder Lynne Parker talks about the Funny Women Collection on the University of Kent’s podcast A History of Comedy in Several Objects. In this episode Lynne discusses her experience of running Funny Women, the success stories, the controversies and articulates points about feminism within stand-up comedy throughout the ages, with hosts Dr Oliver Double and Elspeth Miller.
We may be biased but it’s a good listen! You can download it on iTunes or listen to it here!
