We’re very excited to announce 2015 Funny Women Awards winner Desiree Burch, award-winning comedian from Australia Felicity Ward and rising star Kelly Convey have joined our fabulous line up for the Funny Women Comedy Gala hosted by Zoe Lyons on Friday 23rd June at the beautiful Worthing Assembly Hall, all in aid of The Brighton Women’s Centre.
Since winning the Funny Women Awards in 2015 Desiree has gone from strength to strength, The Independent described her as a “larger than life New Yorker… who brought the roof down” and the Huffington Post listed her as one of their favourite female comedians. Desiree starred in a Sky Arts Valentine’s comedy short and has featured on the panel of BBC Radio 4’s The News Quiz.
Felicity Ward is an Australian TV comedian, you might have spotted her in The Inbetweeners 2 film or performing on the John Bishop Show, she has also appeared on Russell Howard’s Good News. Felicity has taken the UK comedy scene by storm, described as “Joyfully Funny” by the Edinburgh Evening News, whilst Chortle says she “fizzes and flashes and bangs like an untethered Catherine Wheel, showering white-hot sparks everywhere.”
This year Kelly Convey was voted by The Metro as “1 of 9 Hilarious Women to Look Out for in 2017” and was nominated for Leicester Mercury Comedian of the Year. Kelly reached the finals of 2016’s So You Think You’re Funny and has been described by our very own Kate Lennon as “a bright and filthy new star.”
The Brighton Women’s Centre has been supporting women in Brighton and Hove for over 40 years and women across Sussex since 2014. Their aim is to empower women and reduce inequality by promoting independence in a safe, women-only space. They welcome all women, regardless of age, disability, gender, marital status, parenthood, race, belief, and sexuality.
