Jessica Hynes and Cobie Smulders are teaming up for a new British comedy film, Songbird. The film tells the story of Joanna Sykes, the lead singer of a successful 1990s band The Filthy Dukes. Joanna drunkenly applies to university after the band…disbands. Hijinx and education ensue.

University doesn’t feature as much hard drinking and partying as Joanne expected, instead there’s a lot more yoga and kale. Whilst there, she falls in love with a librarian called Pete, but will university provide the new start Joanne needs?

Filming has already begun in Cornwall on Songbird. The film also features Noel Clarke, Laura Patch, Holli Dempsey, Emily Atack and Ian Smith. It was written by Jamie Adams, who said: “I am incredibly lucky to be working with such a talented cast and crew on Songbird; Cobie Smulders is such an amazing comic actor, and it’s truly a privilege to work with her here in Cornwall, of all places!”

We think they should get real Britpop band singer turned comedian Rosie Wilby involved on set!
