Those who Netflix and chill for real might have come across comedian Maria Bamford’s show Lady Dynamite. The show, described as ‘occasionally surreal’ by Netflix, is well worth a watch.
The many voiced stand up comedian has often used her mental health issues as material, in her stand up show Ask Me About My New God Maria mentioned being mistaken as schizophrenic: “Well, that is clearly not my mental illness; I am Bipolar-II — which is the new gladiator sandal! Schizophrenia is, of course, hearing voices— not doing voices.”
In the Netflix series Lady Dynamite, the show deals with the comedian’s mental health, her pugs, and her comedy career in a brilliant, if occasionally hard to follow manner. It’s pretty refreshing to see a company be brave and go ahead – TWICE – with a project that confronts various subjects many channels might shy away from.
There are cameos, there are time jumps, there are jokes! Lady Dynamite’s pretty much got everything and we’re delighted the show will be back in 2017.
