We spoke to 2011 Funny Women Awards finalist Sarah Callaghan about her new show 24. Which isn’t about what you think…
Funny Women: Your new show is called 24 – your age, was this partly Adele-inspired?
Sarah Callaghan: No, my show is nothing to do with my age. If you wanted to do a show about your age you may as well call your show ‘wacky haircut…that I’ve given myself for the purposes of my opening joke’. It’s a show about time – changing your life in 24 hours.
FW: What would you do if you only had 24 hours to live?
SC: Cheery question! Eat loads of ice cream, fuck about and remind everyone how much they’ll miss me when I’m gone.
FW: Any advice for those looking to improve their life in 24 hours?
SC: You see these things all the time on the internet – change your life in 24 hours – 10 easy steps etc. My advice would be just get out of bed and don’t be a prick? Two basic rules really and your life will be better instantly.
FW: What do you think young people like yourself bring to the comedy scene?
SC: I don’t think age should be an issue – when it’s good, comedy should reach out to all generations so I don’t think of myself as ‘a young comedian’. Too much in comedy is focussed on the young – ooh that baby made a fart noise let’s give it a panel show – people don’t care about anything apart from – are you funny?
FW: Who are your favourite funny women?
SC: Roisin Conaty, Candy Gigi and Sarah Callaghan. Obviously.
Sarah Callaghan’s show 24 will be playing at Pleasance Dome from Friday 5th August till Sunday 28th August, every day at 8:20pm
